Macarons are structured out of egg whites, sugar and powder of almonds (mostly). If anything they (Macarons) would be part of the cookie or biscuit family.

they are little cake macarons. NOT real macarons. REAL macarons are made from egg whites sugar and jelly and stuff. not muffin pans, icing, and cake.
